My workshop

In April, 2002, I moved to Neuendorf, a village in Salzwedel Altmark District. There I established my 48 sq. yard workshop.

One forth of the space is taken by a 243-quart and a 63-quart firing kiln. My most important tool is a slab roller. It is my huge “rolling pin” to roll out clay in slabs as thin as 2 mm. The centre is a large workbench framed by many souvenir photographs from my life. The room is decorated with many of my works.

For my work I’m using the simplest tools: modelling sticks, drinking straws, burins, dough scrapers, pastry cutters, kitchen knives, kebab sticks, toothpicks, chipboards for pads, sieves, stamps, wires to cut the clay, self-made templates and more.

I use differently-sized fine brushes for glazing and a strong bristle brush to blur the glaze and to clean the surfaces, as well as a sponge for the final cleaning of the pads.
